Rap Beef is Back II
Weeks ago, I covered the return of rap beef. Since then, Metro Boomin and Future dropped a second album, "We Still Don't Trust You," and like the first, it is a classic. Also, like its predecessor, it is filled with features from artists eager to jump in on the Drake dispute. Most notably, verses from former Drake protégé The Weeknd and Rihanna rival A$AP Rocky. The Weeknd lends a verse, and not just harmony, to the album's title track "We Still Don't Trust You," poking fun at his shared stadium status with Drake. He also jumps on "All to Myself," celebrating not having signed his life away by being on Drake's label. A$AP delivers a much more damning verse on "Show Of Hands," opening with "Take his chain shorty, leave ya man for me" before sharing his excitement about rappers finally speaking out against Drake and playing his trump card several times, reminding Drake that he has what Drake famously wanted: Rihanna.
Despite what the gentlemen on WDTY and WSDTY would have you believe about October's own character, Drake took no time to fire back with "Push Ups." Wasting no words on slights as artists had done to an extent on the Metro Boomin and Future projects, Drake comes very directly at Kendrick with some brutal bars about his record deal, his height, and his status as an artist. He also dismisses Metro Boomin by commanding him to go back to producing. With Kendrick still silent, Drake tapped into the power of AI to have two West Coast legends, Tupac and Snoop Dogg, diss Kendrick on "Taylor Made." The use of AI was spawned by the accusations that "Push Ups" was created by AI and the rumored diss track that was "released" and then removed by Kendrick. In the track, Drake accuses Kendrick of waiting to respond to appease former collaborator Taylor Swift and noting the time between his diss and the lack of Kendrick's response after west coast legends take turns sharing their disappointment in Kendrick.
While we eagerly await a response from K-Dot, Rick Ross has come forward with their own diss, "Champagne Moments," to respond to Drake's accusations that Ross only gets number one hits with his help. Ross also spends time calling Drake a "white boy" and hilariously accuses him of wearing Dockers with no underwear. Famous Drake hater Kanye West also hopped on a remix of "Like That" to share his well-known feelings about Drake.
