Thursday Night NFL Picks and Props: Houston Texans @ New York Jets
Happy Halloween! Tonight’s billing couldn’t be more fitting for All Hallows' Eve. If you’re a Jets fan, this season has been nothing short of horrific. If you’re a Texans fan, tonight might terrify you with the potential for more injuries. So, let’s head to MetLife Stadium to break down the best side, total, and prop bets for tonight.
Houston Texans @ New York Jets
In a surprising twist, the New York Jets are favorites tonight at home. And that’s shocking because, quite frankly, this team has been flat-out dreadful. I say this with all due respect as a Patriots fan…but they lost to us, and that was just four days ago. The Jets being favored here honestly makes me question betting on the Texans. On the other hand, Houston’s offense is struggling with key injuries, including the recent loss of Stefon Diggs, who’s out for the year with an ACL tear.
Despite these factors, I can’t shake the ugly football I’ve seen from this Jets team. So, I’m leaning toward taking the Texans +2. I think it’s going to be a messy game, but the Texans have a shot at surviving this short week and the trip to New York.
I’m also siding with the TNF “under” trend tonight. The Texans boast a solid pass rush, and Aaron Rodgers isn’t moving the way he used to. Plus, the Texans are down several pass-catchers due to injuries, meaning we’re likely to see a ground-heavy approach against a soft Jets defensive front. If that’s the case, the under should be a strong play.
Prop Bet: Dalton Schultz to Score a Touchdown
Given the Texans' shortage of reliable pass-catchers, I’m looking at Dalton Schultz for my prop bet. Schultz’s target share has steadily risen since Nico Collins went down, and now, without Diggs, he could be the go-to in the red zone. At +310 for an anytime touchdown, a sprinkle on Schultz finding the end zone offers some value.
Bets Recap:
Side: Houston Texans +2 (-110)
Total: Under 42.5 (-108)
NFL Game Prop: Dalton Schultz ATTD (+310)
