He's Back...
Like a bad penny, Donald Trump returned to Twitter this morning posting:
"Are you better off now than you were when I was president? Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We're a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again!"
Before posting a series of campaign ads and promoting his exclusive interview with current X owner Elon Musk.
The return to Twitter is telling for a number of reasons. It shows that his partnership with Elon is stronger than previously indicated by either. His campaign might be weaker than previously reported. And, the treasured tweets could be back.
The 2nd tweet was an ad providing the details of Donald Trump's interview with Elon Musk that is being live streamed on the platform this evening 8/12. The former president seems to have found a friend in the "free speech" tech billionaire Elon who has pledged substantial money to his campaign.
Musk maintains that Twitter is the leading social platform for free speech and unbiased media, not a beacon of hate speech and misinformation. The way Elon talks about "free speech" and media misrepresentation, methinks the lady doth protest too much. Trump's return seems to confirm as much.
Fortunately for foes of 45, users on Twitter have been in free fall since Elon purchased the company in April of '22. It was at the same time Trump vowed he would never return to the platform even if reinstated.
The return to the platform that helped him win the election in 2016 is telling in another way. Not just his partnership with Musk. But, as a sign of potential struggle for the candidate who seemed untouchable just months ago after a debate performance that left Democrats questioning the capability of their candidate. And, a failed assassination attempt that left Republicans steadfast in their support of theirs.
In that time the top of the ticket was replaced for the Democratic party, something their party largely viewed as a net positive. And, Trump announced his VP J.D Vance who has struggled to gain the confidence of his own party and been a punching bag for Democratics.
A return to Twitter seems to suggest that the campaign is playing the hits and once again getting the president's direct message to the people.
For fans of a good old-fashioned laugh this is fantastic. Donald Trump is one of the funniest Twitter users of all time. Not always intentionally, but his random capitalization, the out-of-context mud-slinging tweets, and classics like:
Like it or not you are about to see a whole lot more of 45 on the Twitter machine, especially if this new found friendship with Musk is here to stay and his campaign has identified it as a possible tool for popularity. Let's just hope it skews closer to romantic advice for Robert Pattinson and pictures of taco bowls than instruction inciting and Putin praise.
