Porn Star Out at Wisconsin
Porn stars can hold all sorts of occupations. They can be a helpful handyman, a sympathetic police officer, a desperate real estate agent—even a naughty nurse. But they cannot hold the position of chancellor of UW-La Crosse, or be a communications professor there, as confirmed by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
Joe Gow has been unanimously voted to be removed from his tenured position as a communications professor at the school. This follows his dismissal as chancellor in 2023 after it was discovered that Gow and his wife had filmed and posted multiple adult videos, and published two e-books about their pornographic exploits.
Gow had been on paid leave since his dismissal as chancellor, and he argued that he should be allowed to retain his teaching position as a communications professor. Attorneys for the university argued he was unethical, violated the terms of his employment contract, damaged the reputation of the university, and his films were “rather amateur” and “just plain nasty.”
Gow maintains that his videos and the two e-books he and his wife, Carmen, published about their experiences in adult films are protected by the First Amendment. And plenty of people would disagree with the university’s assessment of the films being “just plain nasty.” Gow points to the views on the videos: “A lot of people think otherwise.” He then made a masturbatory motion and wagged his tongue.
Gow plans to sue the university on these grounds, saying in a statement, “The people who fired me today aren’t a ‘Board of Regents,’ they’re a ‘Board of Hypocrites.’”
Gow has no plans to stop his side hustle as a porn star, and now that he will no longer collect a university paycheck, it’s likely his production in pornography will increase. Gow has already hinted at his next film: The Naughty CUMmunications Professor.
