TrumpTok

Former President Donald Trump joined TikTok Saturday night posting a video from UFC 302 where he received a warm welcome. The decision comes just three and a half years after his executive order to ban the app. While the ban did not hold, as it was unclear if he actually had legal authority to ban TikTok, it is an interesting, although not unexpected, move. A spokesman for the presidential hopeful, Steven Cheung, said of the decision, "He wants to '...leave no front undefended,'" and the move was made to hopefully reach a younger audience.

While some may see this as hypocritical, it is worth noting that Donald Trump is joining President Joe Biden on the app, Biden joined the app in February and introduced legislation to ban it in April.

I am not familiar with the popular video-sharing application owned by Beijing-based ByteDance, but I will be on it in a heartbeat if we are going to be able to see Joe Biden do the "Single Ladies" dance or start plugging Mighty Patch. Better yet, if President Trump leans into ASMR videos or starts doing BookTok, but just about his version of the Bible and "The Art of the Deal." I am there.

We remain almost a half-year from the election and are just days out from the former president being found guilty on felony charges, so expect campaign rhetoric to ramp right up across all platforms. One thing remains clear about the 2024 election: it is much like an AVP tagline, "Whoever Wins, We Lose.
