Celtics' Win Overshadowed by Porzingis' Injury

MIAMI -- The Boston Celtics took a 3-1 lead over the Miami Heat on Monday, winning the game 102-88 behind a career-high 38 points from Derrick White. However, the story of the game was not White's career night. Late in the second quarter, Kristaps Porzingis left the game hobbled following a non-contact injury. As he was supported to the locker room, Porzingis covered his face with his jersey, and Celtic fans felt a collective grief.

Denial - "This is a cramp. This is not an Achilles. This is a cramp. This is not an Achilles. We are just close to the half, so getting him in early." Covers head with jersey - "It's a really bad cramp. Not an Achilles."

Anger - "This Miami team should be locked up under the jail. Game one, Caleb Martin tried to paralyze JT. Game four, they rolled KP's ankle on one end, knowing full well the complete sports science behind how that would cause an Achilles tear on the other end, and they could deny culpability."

Bargaining - "Take mine. I have two."

Depression - "Hello darkness, my old friend. You cannot win the Larry O'Brien trophy in game four of round one. But you can lose it."

Acceptance - "It was a magical season. Even without Porzingis, the Celtics would still probably be favored to win the East. Maybe Al Horford turns back time, and the Celtics move from a team of fate to a team of destiny. Porzingis is gone, but the title hopes don't have to be."

Updates from the team indicate the injury is not an Achilles, and Porzingis was suffering from calf tightness. Porzingis took to social media to share, "Thanks for all the support, will be good" and a bicep emoji. Celtics fans can give a slight sigh of relief as we await more information on the injury. I will continue to do the research.
