Thursday Night NFL Picks and Props: Minnesota Vikings vs. Los Angeles Rams
As much as I enjoy Al Michaels having to sit through a stinker and provide his deadpan, disdainful commentary, tonight’s game might actually get the blood flowing for old Al. We have Minnesota heading west to take on a Rams team that might finally be getting healthy. Minnesota just dropped their first game to the best team in the NFC at home, while Los Angeles was able to get some swagger back by beating up on a dreadful Raiders squad. So, who has the edge tonight? How many points will be scored? And what is the can’t-miss prop for tonight’s game? Well, let’s break it down.
Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Rams
Tonight, we have a battle of the data points: the immovable Thursday Night favorite ATS (Against The Spread) vs. the unstoppable trend of teams struggling after facing a very physical Detroit Lions squad. Thursday Night Football favorites are 5-2 so far this season, and with the line moving to under a field goal, this data sets up nicely for Vikings -2.5. HOWEVER (Stephen A. Smith voice), there is an alarming trend: teams who play the Detroit Lions often lose outright the next week. This has been chalked up to the physicality of the Lions, and with the Vikings on a short week, that trend could hold up. That being said, I’m a believer in this Vikings team and Brian Flores' defense against a limited Rams offense. I love that the line is under a key number, so I’m taking the Vikings -2.5.
The last few Thursday nights have treated us to some improbable late-game overs, with a huge fourth quarter in Seattle and a late defensive score in New Orleans. However, I’m leaning on water finding its level tonight with the total at 48. If it’s data you want, I’ve got that as well. The Minnesota Vikings are averaging 28 points per game, while the Rams are averaging just 19 points per game, landing at 47 total points—just under the number. Couple that with a short week, and I think we’ll see both teams struggle to score and settle for some field goals.
Field goals, you say? That leads me to our “can’t-miss” prop of the week: a field goal prop on Will Reichard, who has been near automatic. Reichard has made two field goals in all but two games this year. Tonight, his O/U for field goals is just 1.5. I’m taking the Alabama alum to knock a couple in tonight and cash that prop early in the game.
Bets Recap:
Side: Vikings -2.5 (-115)
Total: Under 48 (-108)
NFL Game Prop: Will Reichard Over 1.5 FGs (-135)
