Total Takedown: Mavericks at Celtics

Team Totals. It is a simple bet, one with historical data to leverage and an easy rooting interest to understand. Here, Cal TT will take you through the game of the day using wit, readily available information, and vibes. I cannot stress this enough. Data and vibes are the backbone of a team total pick.

Classic good news, bad news: Aja Wilson went bonkers, dropping 38 points, and the Aces won by ten, but they also were way over their team total, and Callie TT can no longer be trusted. It's a sad day, it's a bad day. Wait, no, it's not. The NBA Finals start tonight, and my beloved Boston Celtics are right where they're supposed to be, hosting Game One.

Let's take a look at this C's team, who talking heads will tell you were untested and played nobodies missing their somebodies. Honestly, that's not entirely untrue, but you play the teams on your schedule, and the Celtics have looked brilliant despite losing their big offseason addition in the third game of the postseason. KP returns tonight, and what that looks like is the biggest question coming into the game and the key to the series. Let's break down their team total of 110.5(-110).

The Celts and Mavs have met twice this season, with the Celtics dusting them both times (138-110, 119-110), BUT past performance is not indicative of future results, and that statement could not be more true about the regular season for these teams. Dallas has improved consistently through the back half of the season and into the postseason.

However, the Celtics are putting up 114.8 points in the Garden this postseason and have gone over the number 6 out of the 8 games played at home. Despite Dallas' improved defense this postseason (115.65 per game regular season vs. 103.88 postseason), they have not seen a team that can go five out like the Boston Celtics can. If the Celtics are moving the ball the way they are capable of Dallas will not be able to slow down the scoring.

The big question mark is what it looks like getting KP back in the rotation and the classic rest/rust dilemma. Assuming all systems are a go and the Celtics are moving the ball well tonight, I love them to exceed that team total. LET'S GO CELTICS!!!

The Pick: BOSTON CELTICS OVER 110.5 (-110)
The Record: 9-10
