Kyles Assemble!

KYLE, Texas (CB) - On Saturday in Kyle, a suburb of Austin, 706 people gathered to attempt to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with the same name in the same place. They did not. In fact, 706 Kyles is not even the largest amount of people with the same name in the town that shares the name, as last year's gathering of The Kyles was double the amount at 1,490.

Many of last year's participants could not be enticed, possibly by the lack of Monster Energy drinks or maybe by learning that the renowned record is seemingly unattainable. The record holder for the largest gathering of people with the same name in the same place is a town in Bosnia that had 2,353 Ivans come together in 2017.

The Kyles were always aware of their scrappy underdog status in their attempt to claim their title, as the name ranks 416th in the United States in popularity compared to Ivan at 153rd. Name information for Bosnia is not available. The country is much more concerned with the intensified political and ethnic tensions that could potentially slide it back into war. However, we suspect Kyle is also less common than Ivan in Southeastern Europe.

Another difficult loss for the Kyles; however, the city of Kyle plans to continue the tradition of getting as many Kyles together as they can for "The Gathering of the Kyles." And while the name may never be as popular as Ivan, I would still prefer 706 American Kyles to 2,353 Bosnian Ivans. Chin up, Kyles! While the Ivans are not concerned about your little gathering, the drywall in the town of Kyle was terrified.
