Danny Gets His Bag
It took some time to come to fruition, but as we all expected, Dan Hurley has signed his extension. The Los Angeles Lakers got their man for the price they wanted (four years, $30 million), and the UConn Huskies got their man for the price he wanted (six years, $50 million).
Good on UConn for getting it done and paying the best college coach what he is worth. I stand by the reasoning that Danny only took his meeting with the Lakers last month so he could get a better offer to stay in Storrs. And the Lakers only made a very public offer to him so they could pay JJ less and to continue to let LeGM run the team.
The Lakers are still held hostage by an aging superstar and a rookie head coach. Meanwhile, UConn remains the favorite to go for a three-peat, and Danny Hurley can afford the best anger management specialist in the world, although that remains as unlikely as him becoming the head coach of the Lakers.
