O Danny Boy The Pelinkas The Pelinkas are calling (UPDATED)
BOOM! Dan Hurley staying in Storrs! Dan Hurley has rebuffed the LA Lakers and their insultingly lowball offer of six years, $70 million. The announcement came the same way he first heard about it Thursday, through a Woj tweet that outlined the specifics of the Lakers' offer as well as doing some PR for his longtime family friend.
Hurley is currently under a six-year contract he had signed in 2023 for $32.1 million. So while LA's offer would have been an increase in pay, it would have been a serious decrease in potential, stature, and situation as previously outlined.
Hurley plans to stay on the East Coast, where he will likely get another pay bump similar to what occurred after he was offered the Kentucky position. He also lays the foundation for Huskies fans to be aware that he will one day take an NBA job, so love him while you've got him. It also affords him the potential to use the very public flirting with the Lakers to recruit and retain the kind of college talent he wants to coach.
The Lakers' coaching role remains vacant, while UConn remains a contender to three-peat next season. If you are a fan of the UConn Huskies, the news made you tight in the pants, while if you are a Los Angeles Lakers fan, the news was a hard kick to it.
