Scottie Doesn't Know....How to Drive
Scottie Scheffler was arrested this morning on his way to the PGA Championship. The incident occurred after there had been a pedestrian fatally struck on the only road into Valhalla, causing backed up traffic in both directions for a mile, which was being directed by police as they conducted an investigation. Scottie was in an official PGA Championship vehicle upon being directed to stop, he proceeded when an officer (identified as Detective Gillis in the Police report) yelled at him to stop before grabbing the vehicle and being dragged as it came to a stop.
Scheffler was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed. He was taken to jail and booked for second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Scheffler was released in time for his delayed tee time at 10:08 am, birdieing the first hole, as his attorney, Steve Romines, released a statement chalking up the entire accident to a misunderstanding.
Well, there we have it. The shine is off the apple. Scottie Scheffler, the golden boy of golf, once thought of as a kind human, devoted husband, and a man of faith, has been revealed as a bad driver, a police abolitionist, and likely member of antifa.
This has to be the most embarrassing PGA car incident since February 23, 2021, when Tiger Woods drove off a cliff, or May 29, 2017, when Tiger Woods got arrested for a DUI, or November 27, 2009, when Tiger drove into a fire hydrant after being chased from his home by his wife. But this is not about Tiger Woods' driving, which has been exceptional since his return to golf (averaging 300 yards).
This is about today's victims. First, the pedestrian who was struck by a bus crossing the road this morning outside of Valhalla. And the brave and noble Officer Bryan Gillis who had to be taken to the hospital with pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee. Officer Gillis was performing a standard tactical police move of grabbing a moving vehicle to stop it, something he had done many times before. Somehow this vehicle was able to proceed despite him holding on to it, causing him to fall to the ground and be dragged several yards.
I am glad we can see the world's number one golfer for what he truly is. Scottie Scheffler's once-pristine image is forever tainted. Our thoughts are with the victim's family this morning, and our hearts are with the brave Officer Gillis, who we can only hope will make a full recovery.
