The HurriCANeS Make it a Series
NEW YORK (CB) — The Carolina Hurricanes would not go quietly into the night, staving off elimination for the second straight game, this time in New York, 4-1, with all four goals coming in the third period. The only Rangers goal came from Jacob Trouba, who managed a shorthanded score in the second period.
Igor Shesterkin was able to turn away 24 shots but unable to hold their 1-0 lead in the third period. With goals coming from Jordan Staal and Andrei Svechnikov just three minutes apart, the Rangers' offense was powerless, and they will have to return to Raleigh on Thursday night in hopes of advancing.
After the first three games, the Rangers looked in complete control of the series, even stealing an overtime victory on the road, but these last two games have to make this Rangers team nervous. After losing game four 3-2 in overtime and the game five blowout third-period collapse, this team appears to be trending downward. After the game, Trouba shared, "We have a couple of cracks. We'll play a better game down there." Currently, the Hurricanes are a -170 favorite to win Thursday night to force the sweetest words in sports: Game Seven.
