Bee-ware: 1.5 Million Bees Might Be in the Truck in Front of You
CLINTON, Maine (CB) -- A tractor-trailer truck hauling upwards of 15 million bees crashed in Clinton on Thursday, May 9th. The driver was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure while first responders worked to ensure the safety of the bees.
For decades, the greatest fear of driving behind a tractor-trailer truck would be that it contains logs and you live out the opening twenty minutes of Final Destination 2. But now, a new tractor-trailer fear unlocked: BEES!
15 million bees is simply too many bees. I say this as a bee lover too. I am not allergic, I fucks with Honey, and my favorite film this year was the Statham-led action packed revenger tale The Beekeeper. But 15 million.. GODDAMN!. There are just trucks out there with nine digits worth of bees driving among us?!
These bees were heading to Washington County to support pollination of the blueberry industry, where it is estimated they will need 1.4 billion bees this year to prop up the industry. Again, I like bees. I also like blueberries (top two muffin, spectacularly simple name) and the downfall of 'Violet Beauregarde'.
My primary concern is not these bees but the access we apparently have to bees. I was led to believe that bees were on the brink of extinction. However, wildlife officials have never considered the honeybee endangered, threatened, or even imperiled. In fact, you can purchase almost 50,000 bees for less than $150, making them the most readily available insect option to ship in bulk.
The citizens of Clinton, Maine, are safe...for now. At this point, almost all of the bees have been caught and contained with very few losses. But I maintain we as a people are no longer safe. Right now, your biggest enemy could be sending you 46k bees for $143, shipping included. Bee safe, friends, because this accident has created a buzzing prank market.
