Ohio State has the Buckeye Leaf awarded for individual achievements in game. Florida State has the Tomahawk, only awarded after team wins. Oklahoma State has... the QR Code?
Just one day after Mike Gundy declared he had had enough with NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) distractions, telling players to "Stop having your agents call me asking for more money. It's non-negotiable now. Start again in December," it seems Oklahoma State has found a new way to try and put more money in players' pockets, and Gundy has changed his tune.
QR codes were unveiled today, and the head coach shared, "This is a revolutionary step forward to help keep Oklahoma State football ahead of the game. It gives a chance for everyday fans across the world to have a real impact when it comes to supporting the NIL efforts for Cowboy football. I'm thrilled about this opportunity for our players."
The QR codes, which will be 1.5-inch squares and feature each player's name, will not be visible from the stands but will be clear on television during close shots on broadcasts. Players will also have the opportunity to post their QR codes to social media and share them elsewhere. There is no word on whether the QR codes will take you to a suggested tip screen.
